This experience took place over the week of spring break. Our group consisted of about twenty students, so we were able to connect and bond throughout the experience. Throughout the semester, we had two pre departure meetings to learn about the area to which we were traveling and the people who live there. It helped us to identify with the people of Appalachia and find a more personal connection in the experience. While we were on the trip, we were split into groups with students from other colleges, so we got to meet even more people while serving the community. I chose to take part in this experience because I love taking part in these kinds of trips. It means a lot to me to be able to make a difference for somebody else. I believe this was the most meaningful honors experience I had. I made some great friends and felt like I made a difference. Having this experience meant a lot to me because I got to connect with other people, whether it was my classmates or the people in Appalachia. Knowing about the problems that exist in this area and knowing there are ways I can help makes me more determined to go on more trips. Overall, this experience meant a lot to me personally and I am excited to continue serving others.
