Documentation: My Gateway to University Honors class met in 809 Swift Hall on Wednesday afternoons from 3:35-4:30 throughout the fall semester. We learned how to construct a strong learning portfolio and formulate an honors experience proposal, but we also learned more about ourselves through the reflective assignments such as Passions. Through this class, I was able to meet other people in the University Honors Program and learn how we can work together with our varied interests. Though this class was required for the Honors Program, it was a great experience that exceeded my expectations. I admit that I was hesitant at first, but our instructor Neil was funny and welcoming and helped all of us adjust to both college life and Honors. From my prior experience in the IB Diploma program, I was nervous to be starting honors in college because it was such a stressful experience throughout high school. However, the Honors program at UC is much less stressful and more personalized. This experience was meaningful to me because it helped me see that this Honors program is not going to burn me out like it did in high school. I am now much more excited and ready for college and the Honors program. It has already encouraged me to seek out more Honors experiences than strictly necessary and I am excited to think of all the learning opportunities I will have from this program.
